A client once remarked that what makes this program so special is the love that goes into the meals. The program was established at St. John's Episcopal Church, in Kingston, NY in 1991 and began serving meals in 1992.

Angel Food East is an independent and ecumenical program that serves essentially homebound people living with HIV/AIDS regardless of gender, age, race, economic status, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. Clients are referred to us by ARCS (AIDS-related community services), Mid-Hudson CARE, Family Woodstock, and individual contacts. During the first half of 2006 we prepared 3000 meals.

AFE prepares and delivers free nutritious hot meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Ulster County.

Monday through Friday, volunteers gather in the parish kitchen to prepare a four-course meal for up to 50 clients daily. These meals are delivered by volunteers directly to the clients at home. This ensures client confidentiality, while offering the clients direct, personal contact with caring members of their community.

Approximately 50 volunteers plan menus, shop, cook, and deliver the meal.
